Tagore’s Women – A Play By Samarth Theatre Group @ Akshara Theater
Oct 7 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Tagore's Women - A Play By Samarth Theatre Group @ Akshara Theater | New Delhi | Delhi | India

The play is based on two short stories of Rabindranath Tagore. Written around eighty years ago, these stories are relevant for the present times. Read closely, it becomes one written for the problems of the present age. This very aspect of the narrative gives rise to a pertinent question; have we really changed? Our play, Tagore’s Women answers this very question.

The story revolves around two distinct characters; Giribala and Mrinal. As individuals, they are poles apart, but are searching for the same thing; a sense of individuality and liberty. This is a story about Two Married women who break away from fetters of turmoil and pain, to find their own freedom. This is a story of women who exhibit the courage to give rise to as many more questions as they answer. This is a story of women who decide to live life on their own terms

Love, Prufrock at Old World Theatre Festival @ India Habitat Centre
Oct 12 @ 7:00 pm – Oct 13 @ 9:00 pm
Love, Prufrock at Old World Theatre Festival @ India Habitat Centre | New Delhi | Delhi | India

T.S Eliot’s ‘The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock‘ inquires into the disillusionment of a man with the times he is living in. Derived from this literary masterpiece, our performance uses the interplay of the human body to understand the poem’s protagonist and the structures surrounding him.
In the attempts to find Prufrock inside the performers’ bodies, residing alongside their own anxieties, the performance ends up creating multiple Prufrocks.
All cramped inside this overwhelming world of ours. The fractured narrative is threaded delicately by swift movements through urban landscapes.

The Metro | The Office | The Mall | Home | The Pub become witnesses to Prufrock’s constant attempts to be.

Devised by: Anannya Tripathyi (Performer), Dhwani Vij (Performer), Neel Sengupta (Director) and Rahul Tewari (Performer)

Produced by : Third Space Collective

Everyone is well aware of the treacherous actions of Aurangzeb the great Mughal emperor, but what about it’s repercussions.
Aurangzeb rose and built an empire but when he fell, the stones of his very own empire made him bleed. His dying voice craved for the forgiveness and sympathy of the souls he erased from the face of the Earth. And at last, even death found it hard to swiftly reach his path.
‘Aurangzeb Ki Aakhri Raat’ is the saga that tells about all those laments which he had before his demise.

@ Studio Safdar | New Delhi | Delhi | India

"Harappans in the Ganga Valley: New Discoveries" by Dr. Bhuvan Vikrama @ Conference Room - 1, Main Building | New Delhi | Delhi | India

“Harappans in the Ganga Valley: New Discoveries”

As part of Indian Archaeology Series.

Speaker: Dr. Bhuvan Vikrama, Archaeological Survey of India

The Harappan presence in the east of Yamuna has been attested at Alamgirpur (Baghpat) and at Hulas (Saharanpur), however, with an admixture of local or regional cultural elements, it represents a diluted form of the Harappans or its rural manifestation with no urban signatures. Recent, discovery of a large collection of copper objects from Harinagar (Bijnor) and a small scale excavation at Sakatpur (Saharanpur) yielding the copper hoard implements with Harappan artefacts has brought us to a point where a rethink of the Harappan presence in Yamuna-Ganga doab and beyond becomes imperative. The present talk will focus on the Harappan evidences found in this region and will discuss their significance and relevance.

Jan 21 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Asmita Theatre Group presents "Court Martial" Hindi play @ Sri Sathya Sai International Centre | New Delhi | Delhi | India

Asmita Theatre Group presents Swadesh Deepak’s “Court Martial” Hindi Play.

When respect is denied to a man for the only reason that he is borne by ‘low-caste’ parents, the offence cannot simply be termed as a social violence. It assumes larger proportions of crime against humanity and society at large. Yet by the turn in situation the murderer becomes a win…ner whereas the victim is unforgiving.The culprit may receive severe punishment at the hands of the law but, in fact, it is the society which is put in the docks. Court Martial, written by Swadesh Deepak, is a story of recruit Ram Chander who is tried for murdering one of his officers and injuring another.
The Court Martial is presided by a war veteran. Col Surat Singh who has witnessed many ‘life –and –death’ situation. But this trial puts him in a queer position, so far unknown to him, and during the course of interrogation he realize that the issues at stake are much larger than what meets the eye. Realizing that the Indian army is the only government agency in which reservation on caste basis is not permissible. Court Martial presents a combination of legal and poetic justice.
