T.S Eliot’s ‘The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock‘ inquires into the disillusionment of a man with the times he is living in. Derived from this literary masterpiece, our performance uses the interplay of the human body to understand the poem’s protagonist and the structures surrounding him.
In the attempts to find Prufrock inside the performers’ bodies, residing alongside their own anxieties, the performance ends up creating multiple Prufrocks.
All cramped inside this overwhelming world of ours. The fractured narrative is threaded delicately by swift movements through urban landscapes.
The Metro | The Office | The Mall | Home | The Pub become witnesses to Prufrock’s constant attempts to be.

‘Thari – the Loom’ is the latest group production by Malavika Sarukkai. Inspired by the loom and the design and play of thread, this choreography explores the interplay of the constant and variable, the eternal and changing – the warp and weft. Through inventive dance design, and specially commissioned music – colour, design and motif assume mythic and philosophical dimensions, with the sari becoming a metaphor for life itself.

Everyone is well aware of the treacherous actions of Aurangzeb the great Mughal emperor, but what about it’s repercussions.
Aurangzeb rose and built an empire but when he fell, the stones of his very own empire made him bleed. His dying voice craved for the forgiveness and sympathy of the souls he erased from the face of the Earth. And at last, even death found it hard to swiftly reach his path.
‘Aurangzeb Ki Aakhri Raat’ is the saga that tells about all those laments which he had before his demise.

Chandragupta is a play which shows the journey of Chandragupta Maurya from a commoner to the king of Magadh. It also shows how Chankya used his mind and Chandragupta’s strength to defeat the Greeks and fulfill his desire to make India a united nation. It tells the story of politics, diplomacy, revenge, hatred, conspiracy, sacrifice and love for the nation.

Gallerie Ganesha presents “Joie De Vivre : Celebrating Life” a solo show of artworks by Paris-based Maya Burman, daughter of prominent artists Sakti Burman and Maite Delteil
Burman works mainly in pen & ink and water colour and her paintings are delicate, intricately detailed with a strong fantasy element. “Through this show, joie de vivre is something that I expect to give to people,” says the 46-year-old, “At the same time, I’m not a naive person. I don’t expect humanity to become a Garden of Eden. And I find it is important and very difficult to bring the feeling of joy to people. And perhaps, even to myself first. My painting is not contemplative, neither meditative. There is a lot of dynamics into it. It’s not a cold allegorical image of JOIE DE VIVRE. I show the small joys that we all have in everyday’s life.”
Incidentally, Burman has never attended art college and instead chose to study architecture. And yet, she could not remain immune to all the art that was happening around her. “I had my parents to give me direction. It was an informal training with dialogue more than a technical approach. We discussed more about what is painting and why to paint. But it was 24/ 24 training! They didn’t show me the technical aspects. As it is, we don’t have any similarity in our techniques. It was more a question of observation, and learning from observation.” Burman’s work is a blend of everyday life subjects and surreal imagery that give a dreamlike quality to her paintings. “While the same metaphors can be found in my parents’ works, this is not done purposely, it’s just that I have too much fantasy in my thought process.”
Burman’s work is often termed by art aficionados as having a tapestry like effect where everything is subordinate to patterning, reminiscent of the French art nouveau traditions (geometric and floral work) and European middle age architecture in the country where she lives. What then makes her work an interesting melting pot and a meeting ground between two cultures is that it is interlaced with mythical and folk infused imagery and replete with influences of miniature art, that stem from her Indian ancestry.
For instance, a circular work is like a “never ending story”. It is the continuity between days and nights. In a composition in two tones, one moves from a playful and joyful center till you slowly reach the peaceful and resting edges. Another work shows a magical dream like river which gently sweeps over as you sleep, while the tree of life is a chimerical image of a woman and tree.
Burman says,“my training in architecture was very important. It is where all started. I discovered drawing and also that I didn’t want my creativity limited. Still architecture has a massive influence in the way I build my composition. I stay in France and I believe that also makes a real difference for my work. I work with a lot of detail and pattern and that can be linked to Indian miniatures. I think I’m curious. I like to be surprised by unexpected things. All those experiences are getting melted in my work. My work is like a theater, with a lot of characters moving everywhere. I also see my work as journey of life, where nothing is static, hence there is no central figure, all details are important in their own way.”

Throughout the ages art has been used as a connective pathway to both the higher mind and the divine, and psychology has been intrinsically connected to the creative arts in a plethora of ways. Art is perhaps the truest and most candid manifestation of the human psyche which results in surprisingly transformative outcomes for the artist and those experiencing the work. The nature of artistic self actualization is indeed what sets apart the human species from all other life-forms on Earth. In our lecture and interactive session on ‘Art, creativity and the human psyche’ we will be exploring these concepts and the role that Art and creativity play in our personal and collective developmental functioning.

बिला शिक़वा मिर्ज़ा ग़ालिब उर्दू अदब की तारीख़ के सबसे अच्छे शाइर हुए हैं। इसका अंदाज़ा इसी बात से लगाया जा सकता है कि जो क़लाम वो 150 बरस पहले लिख गए हैं, वो आज भी ताज़ा है। ग़ालिब को जितनी बार पढ़ा जाए, लगता है पहली दफ़ा पढ़ रहे हैं।
आइए कूचा-ए-शेर-ओ-सुख़न के सरताज मिर्ज़ा ग़ालिब की एक महफ़िल में शिरक़त कीजिए, ग़ालिब से जुड़िये, महसूस कीजिए।

Synopsis: Donkey Xote is a 3D computer-animated children’s adventure comedy film, based on the Miguel de Cervantes novel Don Quixote. The movie begins with a narration of the story as told by Cervantes, but the narrator is interrupted by the donkey Rucio who insists on telling the “true” story of the adventure: Don Quixote was not crazy, but in fact an intelligent and passionate person. In Rucio’s re-telling of his adventure with Don Quixote and his squire, Sancho Panza (Andreu Buenafuente), we learn that Rucio wishes he were Quixote’s horse, and that the horse, Rocinante, hates leaving his stable. As it develops, Dulcinea has a difficult time choosing between the knight and his wealthy sidekick. The rivalry between Quixote and Panza leads the two on a journey across Spain to Barcelona as they both vie for the beautiful woman’s affections. To defend his honor among the imposters, the real Quixote must duel and win against the Knight of the Moon in order to learn the true identity of Dulcinea.

Synopsis: A magnificent animation movie with lots of fun, adventure, humour and drama, and along with them, very educative. Based on the world famous masterpiece novel by Miguel de Cervantes, it was very popular between Spanish children. It is a great work, an excellent way to approach to Don Quiijote’s literary adventures, even adults enjoy so much with it. About the cast, the voices chosen for the characters are undoubtedly excellent: specially the voices of Don Quijote (played by the huge talented actor Fernando Fernán Gómez), Sancho Panza (Antonio Ferrandis, another great professional), and Cervantes (the excellent communicator Rafael de Penagos, one of the most handsome voices in Radio and TV). The music soundtrack (made by the musical group “Botones”) was also a cute and naïve but effective way to enthusiasm children. Specially open musics “In a place of La Mancha…” and “Sancho – Quijote”.
